GEARBOX

The MAN PowerMatic 08.13 OD torque converter automatic gearbox has eight forward gears and one reverse gear. The gearshift strategy and gearshifts are performed automatically. Software controls the selection and execution of the gearshifts. It is an overdrive gearbox (i7 = 0.84, i8 = 0.64) and is designed for a maximum input torque of 1,250 Nm. The gear spread is 7.65. Designed as an overdrive gearbox (OD), the top two gears have a step-up ratio (in which the output shaft rotates faster than the input shaft). The sixth gear has a ratio of 1.00 and is therefore a direct- drive gear (the output and input shafts have the same speed).

SUSPENSION

The shock absorbers on the rear axle damp the oscillations arising from the suspension (by converting friction into heat) and thereby limit the travel of the oscillations. This ensures the wheels have a good grip on the ground and prevents swaying and lasting post-oscillation of the vehicle. The shock absorbers for vehicles with a high center of gravity (e.g. tank/silo body) have particularly high damping forces in order to counteract the increased rolling inclination, thereby reducing the intensity of the body motion.

Differential locks on driven front and rear axles ensure optimal handling under conditions where friction and surface differ and are thus able to prevent a vehicle from becoming stuck in off-road terrain or on a slippery road, for example. Extended range of application thanks to increased traction even where friction conditions differ (e.g. roads that are slippery on one side only), on unpaved or slippery surfaces (e.g. ice, snow, sand, gravel) or when the vehicle is positioned at an extreme angle.

Additional pair of air springs is installed in front of the skeleton in order to damp the oscillations arising when driving and thereby enhance the experience of driver and passengers inside of the vehicle. Additional air springs also unload the pressure on the front of the skeleton and increase the reliability of construction without damages.

5 pairs of silent blocks installed along the skeleton in order to reduce noises and to add more smooth movement and reduce shaking for the people inside.

SAFETY AND BRAKE SYSTEM

The ABS anti-lock braking system uses sensors to detect the speed of each wheel during braking and regulates the brake pressure at each individual wheel. ABS is a component of the Electronic Braking System EBS. The wheel is prevented from locking up.

The anti-slip control (ASR) prevents the drive wheels from spinning when moving off or accelerating. This improves traction, particularly on slippery surfaces such as ice, snow, loose chippings or wet cobbles, and ensures stable driving. BENEFITS: - Increased active driving safety - Wear-intensive spinning of tyres is avoided

The electronic stability program ESP constantly monitors the dynamic state of the truck with its sensors and, if there is risk of skidding or tipping, automatically intervenes in drive management and the brake system. A warning signal is shown in the instrumentation display.

The electronic brake system EBS combines the basic function of the electro-pneumatic brake with the extended functions of antilock braking system (ABS) and anti-slip control (ASR). With the aid of EBS, driving and braking procedures can be optimized in many different ways. It thus makes an important contribution to enhancing driving safety, driving comfort and cost-effectiveness.

The air dryer integrated into the air circuit reduces the proportion of water vapour in the compressed air and thus limits the humidity in the compressed-air system. This prevents frost damage and corrosion. The air dryer is heated.

The pneumatically actuated disc brakes on the front and rear axle are equipped with internally ventilated brake discs which, with their optimum heat dissipation, ensure a sustained high brake output.

The high-performance engine brake MAN EVBec (Exhaust Valve Brake electronically controlled) is a wear-free continuous brake that is dependent on the engine. Its braking effect increases with increasing engine speed, independently of the road speed. Compared with the MAN EVB, it is characterized by a greater braking effect that can also be controlled in stages.

The parking brake can be operated by means of an electric switch located on the instrument panel to the right of the main display. Under certain conditions, both the engagement of the parking brake when the vehicle is parked and its release when the vehicle moves off can also be performed automatically. In the event of a malfunction or failure of the service brake, the parking brake can be used as an auxiliary brake (emergency brake). In order to prevent any possible blocking of the wheels in this case, the parking brake can also be partially engaged. This is possible in that the switch can be moved back steplessly.

A warning lamp in the instrumentation informs you as soon as the brake lining on a wheel brake has reached the wear limit.

The brake function halt brake is a convenience system. It facilitates regular short stops, e.g. in refuse collection operations, and prevents the vehicle (including trailer/semitrailer) from rolling away. After activating the halt brake, all rear axles (incl. leading and trailing axles) are braked. The halt brake must be activated manually by the driver.

The Tempomat (cruise control, CC) maintains any desired speed between 15 km/h and the maximum speed that can be set using the multifunction steering wheel. Neither the accelerator nor the brake pedal need to be pressed during this process. The cruise control makes it easier for the driver to concentrate on what is happening on the road.

Lane Departure Warning helps the driver to stay in the lane from a road speed of 60 km/h. For this purpose, the right and left lane markings are detected by a camera-based system. If the vehicle unintentionally makes contact with or crosses the lane markings, an acoustic warning is output so that the driver can immediately initiate a counter-reaction – this means that the risk of an accident caused by leaving the lane can be reduced within the system’s limits.

The Turn Assist monitors the difficult-to-see side area next to the vehicle (co-driver's side) at driving speed of up to 30 km/h with the help of radar sensors. If the sensors detect a dangerous situation when the vehicle is turning off, the driver can be warned in good time so that they can intervene and if possible prevent a collision with other road users. Within the limits of the system, Turn Assist can help the driver to avoid serious accidents involving cyclists or pedestrians, particularly in urban traffic.

MAN AttentionGuard is an attention warning system based on the principle of lane monitoring. It recognizes signs of reduced driver attention from a driving speed of 60 km/h. Both a visual and acoustic warning prompt the driver to redirect their attention back to driving – the risk of an accident due to leaving the lane is reduced. MAN AttentionGuard uses a uniformly specified, scientifically recognised rating scale to calculate and estimate the driver fatigue level. AttentionGuard cannot be deactivated.

By recognising the traffic signs on the route in front of the vehicle or using map data, the traffic sign recognition system can detect the permitted maximum speed and display this on the instrumentation display. If the permitted maximum speed is exceeded, the system warns the driver visually and, if necessary, also acoustically. The trigger tolerance for when the system reacts if the speed limit is exceeded can be set in the vehicle menu in the range from 0 to 3 km/h.

Three-phase alternator 28 V, 120 A, 3,360 W, LIN The Basic alternator ensures the vehicle power supply for standard applications. Upon actuation, the mechanical main battery switch on the battery box immediately terminates the electrical connection between the batteries and the electrical system – only the tachograph continues to be supplied with power. This protects against injury or damage, e.g. during maintenance work on the vehicle.

The central locking with remote control allows all doors to be locked and unlocked either remotely or manually with the vehicle key. The integrated comfort closing function additionally permits open windows and (if present) the electric lifting roof to be closed. In addition, the functioning of the exterior lighting on the tractor vehicle and trailer or semitrailer can be tested by means of the buttons on the vehicle key (light test).
