The MAN PowerMatic 08.13 OD torque converter automatic gearbox has eight forward gears and one reverse gear. The gearshift strategy and gearshifts are performed automatically. Software controls the selection and execution of the gearshifts. It is an overdrive gearbox (i7 = 0.84, i8 = 0.64) and is designed for a maximum input torque of 1,250 Nm. The gear spread is 7.65. Designed as an overdrive gearbox (OD), the top two gears have a step-up ratio (in which the output shaft rotates faster than the input shaft). The sixth gear has a ratio of 1.00 and is therefore a direct- drive gear (the output and input shafts have the same speed).

The shock absorbers on the rear axle damp the oscillations arising from the suspension (by converting friction into heat) and thereby limit the travel of the oscillations. This ensures the wheels have a good grip on the ground and prevents swaying and lasting post-oscillation of the vehicle. The shock absorbers for vehicles with a high center of gravity (e.g. tank/silo body) have particularly high damping forces in order to counteract the increased rolling inclination, thereby reducing the intensity of the body motion.

0P3KG-Parking brake control, in instrument panel

The parking brake can be operated by means of an electric switch located on the instrument panel to the right of the main display. Under certain conditions, both the engagement of the parking brake when the vehicle is parked and its release when the vehicle moves off can also be performed automatically. In the event of a malfunction or failure of the service brake, the parking brake can be used as an auxiliary brake (emergency brake). In order to prevent any possible blocking of the wheels in this case, the parking brake can also be partially engaged. This is possible in that the switch can be moved back steplessly.

The Tempomat (cruise control, CC) maintains any desired speed between 15 km/h and the maximum speed that can be set using the multifunction steering wheel. Lane Departure Warning helps the driver to stay in the lane from a road speed of 60 km/h. For this purpose, the right and left lane markings are detected by a camera-based system. If the vehicle unintentionally makes contact with or crosses the lane markings, an acoustic warning is output so that the driver can immediately initiate a counter-reaction – this means that the risk of an accident caused by leaving the lane can be reduced within the system’s limits.

The Turn Assist monitors the difficult-to-see side area next to the vehicle (co-driver's side) at driving speed of up to 30 km/h with the help of radar sensors. If the sensors detect a dangerous situation when the vehicle is turning off, the driver can be warned in good time so that they can intervene and if possible prevent a collision with other road users. Within the limits of the system, Turn Assist can help the driver to avoid serious accidents involving cyclists or pedestrians, particularly in urban traffic.

MAN AttentionGuard is an attention warning system based on the principle of lane monitoring. It recognizes signs of reduced driver attention from a driving speed of 60 km/h. Both a visual and acoustic warning prompt the driver to redirect their attention back to driving – the risk of an accident due to leaving the lane is reduced. MAN AttentionGuard uses a uniformly specified, scientifically recognised rating scale to calculate and estimate the driver fatigue level. AttentionGuard cannot be deactivated.

0PHND - Traffic Sign Recognition

By recognising the traffic signs on the route in front of the vehicle or using map data, the traffic sign recognition system can detect the permitted maximum speed and display this on the instrumentation display. If the permitted maximum speed is exceeded, the system warns the driver visually and, if necessary, also acoustically. The trigger tolerance for when the system reacts if the speed limit is exceeded can be set in the vehicle menu in the range from 0 to 3 km/h.
